The following memories of Mary are shared by her niece, Ardith Davenport:
"My earliest memories of Aunt Mary involve her voice. I can hear that warm and living voice in my mind. Uncle Paul [Suchland] always had interesting things to talk about--and he loved to read, so that made him a hero to me. Their children are all so interesting and have led fascinating lives. When we visited their beautiful home in Missouri, I felt like we belonged there with them. The older cousins were role models and the ones nearer my age were just plain fun! Aunt Mary put meals on the table like a conductor leads an orchestra. She'd be at the stove stirring a pot while handing out jobs to any of us within sight. She was always sewing for grandchildren, doing something for the church, or planning an event."
