Hi, My mom is Sheila, Preston's daughter. My mom sent me this site a few days ago and I absolutely love it. I only wish Grandpa was still her to enjoy this wonderful tribute to his family. I have only fond memories of Grandpa Preston......I spent alot of time with my Grand Parents as a child especially, when my brother Jeffrey was ill. I remember traveling back to Nebraska by car from Oregon to attend the Hird Family reunions. They were such a fun time. Betsy, I remember you as a toddler, your parents were so excited to had finally been blessed with a baby. I currently live in Woodinville Washington, about 20 miles northeast of Seattle Washington. I'm married to my high school sweetheart Bob for 23 years. We have two children Meagan 19 and Jacob 16.

Hi Christine!
Thanks so much for joining the site, and I'm glad you like it. I have so much more that I need to post. I feel bad that I'm not farther along with it, now that folks are starting to visit!
I hope you'll be able to, in the future, share some memories of your grandpa. I never got to know him, and wish I had. He came to visit us in 1993, and I remember one night my dad and I were sitting around the kitchen table listening to him tell stories about his days "riding the rails" during the depression. We kicked ourselves afterwards for not thinking to have a tape recorder running! Those stories are now lost to time and bad memories.

Hi. I am Maxine, Preston is my dad. Dad was the best of all dads. I was always with my dad. I would get my chores done that mom told me to do and then I was off to find Dad. I followed him when he plowed the fields, first with a horse then behind his first tractor. I loved the smell of the fresh plowed soil and running behind with my shoes off. Dad was so fun to be with picking corn. He even fit me with a corn husker for my skinny wrists to follow behind him and the horse pulling the wagon. He had this soft whistle when He worked. Never a tune just whistling. I wanted to help with the milking of the cows, but he was real picky with them cows and would not let me help. When he finally got a milking machine, then he would let me strip one cow after. I then had the job of cleaning the cream separater. I did not like that job. When we moved to Oregon in 1954 I was 16 and knew then that He was strugling to make ends meet until he found a job and get ready for a new baby. We picked beans, him on one side and me on the other, and he still whistled as he worked. I have so many memories I could go on and on.
Don and I have been married almost 52 years and have 4 children, 8 grandchildren, 2 greatgrandsons and a greatgranddaughter due in Jan. We recently moved back to where they all live after living elsewhere for 20 years. Life is good.

Hi Maxine, so glad to have you share some of your memories about your dad. I always wish I would have had the chance to know him better. I know from stories that he was a great man.

I feel like I get to know them now. I will be uploading myself and my family to keep this up to date. this is absolutely amazing.
