The following memories of Mildred and her husband Elmer are shared by her niece, Ardith Davenport:
"Aunt Mildred and Uncle Elmer hold very special places in my heart and memories. Mom and Dad often left us kids in their care. I loved both their farm home and their home in Pleasanton [NE]. Aunt Mildred had such interesting things on her walls, like the old oval, convex glass framed portraits. Just like at Grandma's house, the girls would be sent off to play in a bedroom. I loved Aunt Mildred's sleeping porch! And of course, there was music in her home. She loved playing all the old songs for us on the piano. Some of the little things I remember about Uncle Elmer were his love of baseball, listening to games on the radio, and how he tapped his cigarette ashes in the cuff of his overalls. Their four children were pretty close to my dad's age, so their grandchildren were playmates for my younger siblings."
